A dog of my maturity still has to move with the times. I still enjoy chewing open Giles' post in the morning, although the constant diet of bills does lead to the onset of indigestion. However, these days so much correspondence comes via email, so my latest weeze is jumping up and hitting the delete button just as Giles settles down to read the veritable digital flood that pours from his inbox. However, it seems that things in the email world aren't always as they should be. Internet marketing consultancy dotMailer recently analysed email marketing from 46 retailers and found that even large online retailing names such as Game, Topshop and Waterstone's are falling foul of their legal obligations when it comes to email marketing. The Companies Act 1985 requires that business emails include a company registration number, place of registration and the registered office address of the business. Apparently, half the emails checked by dotMailetr failed on at least one of these requirements. (OK this is where I admit that I took a quick sniff at the bottom of this email newsletter to make sure things are as they should be!) A new Companies Act is being introduced and part of it includes new disclosure regulations, the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008. These are not materially different from the 1985 regulations and come into force on 1st October. The disclosure requirements apply to limited companies and Limited Liability Partnerships and failure to comply can result in a fine of £1,000 and from October, an additional fine of £300 for each additional day that contravenes the regulations. The new Act makes it clear that business websites and emails are subject to the law, although the rules do not apply to sole traders or standard partnerships. So, with the increasing important of emarketing as an effective online tool, I suggest you all have a quick sniff at your own emails and websites. Once again, if you need some help or guidance just ring my mates at Studio 2 Online who are experienced in setting up an effective email marketing systems. A call to 0116 249 5314 will do the trick. Now, where's Giles, I need him to check if the domain smellydog.co.uk is still available! A warm welcome to the following as they join the Studio 2 Online family. Once again, these sites reflect how experienced the team at Studio 2 Online are in providing well designed and effective websites for clients from a variety of business sectors. ![]() Will it be Barack, Hillary or John in the White House next time around? Whoever it may be they surely will not be able to compete with the current incumbent 'good 'ol dubbya' when it comes to the misuse of the English language. Here, for your delictation are a few examples:
"And so, General, I want to thank you for your service. And I appreciate the fact that you really snatched defeat out of the jaws of those who are trying to defeat us in Iraq."
"The decisions we make in Washington have a direct impact on the people in our country, obviously."
"My job is a decision-making job, and as a result, I make a lot of decisions."
"Forms of government matter, in my opinion. It matters how -- the nature of the government in which people live."
and finally ...................
"The best thing about my family is my wife. She is a great first lady. I know that sounds not very objective, but that's how I feel. And she's also patient. Putting up with me requires a lot of patience." ........... if only you knew George, if only you knew!
Aye, Caramba!
